What flooring is suitable for a balcony?
Many types of balcony covering are available, but not all are equally well suited to long-term outdoor use.
Artificial grass can be difficult to keep clean. Wooden deck tiles may trap dirt underneath, while timber that is not intended for prolonged outdoor exposure can deteriorate over time. Ceramic and natural-stone tiles generally require more extensive substrate preparation and can become detached from the balcony slab if installation defects develop over the years.
A balcony covering should provide good slip resistance in wet and dry conditions and withstand exposure to weather and frost. Elasticity, barefoot comfort and reduced footstep noise are also relevant. Purchase price, installation and ongoing maintenance costs should be considered as well.
