How do I install a new overlay on washed concrete?
Washed concrete slabs provide an excellent base for WARCO tiles. In the 1970s it was very fashionable to design terraces, roof terraces, balconies, walkways or even entire facades with washed concrete. Today, these surfaces have become weathered and unattractive and need to be renovated or redesigned.
If the existing washed concrete surface is still stable and even, forming a level plane, the designated WARCO tiles can be installed directly on top – no further preparatory work is required. The WARCO tiles are completely water permeable: rainwater quickly and evenly seeps through the rubber granulate tiles and drains off as usual via the joints and the existing drainage system of the washed concrete surface.
Often, washed concrete paving or patio slabs are laid on a bed of sand or gravel. Over time, the unsecured bedding material has washed away or moved so that the existing washed concrete no longer provides a stable and even base. In such cases, a decision must be made whether to remove the existing pavement or to lay a new, stable layer - which will provide an economical base for the WARCO tiles - taking into account any differences in height between the existing and future pavement.
