Can patio slabs be installed directly on natural ground?
Natural ground – whether naturally grown or filled, such as a lawn or garden soil – cannot be used directly as a base for patio slabs. However, you can easily create a stable subbase. First, mark the planned terrace area and remove the topsoil to a depth of about 10 to 30 cm. Then, form a level surface by smoothing the terrace’s base. If necessary, add and compact a layer of gravel, although this is often not required. Next, apply a 4 to 6 cm thick, perfectly level layer of split stone. On top of this, install plastic turf grids (also known as gravel grids) and fill them with split stone or gravel. This method provides a durable foundation on which you can safely install the appropriate patio slabs, such as WARCO patio slabs made of rubber granulate. Typically, no edging is required for WARCO patio slabs.
