Can you install tiles over wooden boards, parquet, laminate, or WPC?
Decks, pathways, terraces, and platforms made of wood, plastic, or WPC that are exposed to outdoor weather conditions can be easily covered with rubber granulate tiles, just as parquet or laminate floors are in indoor settings.
There are generally two reasons for using WARCO floor coverings over parquet or laminate indoors. First, the covering can protect an existing, delicate—and sometimes even museum-quality—parquet floor from mechanical damage caused by use (such as in fitness centres, events, dog sports, multipurpose halls, or exhibitions). Second, it may be that the current floor does not meet the requirements for slip resistance or fall protection (for example, in playrooms, training areas, or weightlifting rooms). For each of these needs, appropriate WARCO solutions are available.
In most cases, the WARCO tiles are simply laid over the existing parquet or laminate. In some instances, it may be advisable to first apply a membrane or foil to protect the parquet from moisture, in case the tiles become wet.
For outdoor installations – on terrace boards or decking – it is important to ensure that the substructure and boards remain load-bearing. Wood can be significantly damaged by natural weathering, and WPC often shows deformation or warping; damaged or unstable elements should be repaired or replaced.
On stable, robust, and largely even wooden surfaces, the appropriate WARCO floor covering can be laid directly.
