Dog Agility Flooring is made from precision-cut tiles that are 1.8 cm thick and have a wearing layer made from through-coloured EPDM rubber granules. The tiles fit together so closely at the tight joints that individual tiles are barely discernible across the surface. The result is a virtually seamless appearance. It is pleasantly resilient, slip-resistant, durable and colourfast, making it suitable for dog training grounds, agility courses and dog runs.
How much grip does the flooring provide?
Agility depends on speed, skill and safe, controlled movement. A dog sprints, slows down, jumps over obstacles and lands. Paws and claws get good purchase on the grippy surface. The resilient flooring cushions impact forces from jumps and landings, helping to protect paws and joints. Dogs also benefit when playing in a run or training on a dog training ground. When a dog lies down between activities, the flooring protects the dog against cold and damp rising from the substrate. Handlers and trainers also find the resilient surface comfortable to stand and walk on.
What is the flooring made from?
The tiles have two layers with different functions. The wearing layer is made from newly manufactured, through-coloured EPDM rubber granules. This means the tiles retain their colour even under intensive use. The tile body is made from recycled tyre rubber granules (ELT). It provides stability and cushions impacts. Pressure from obstacles and training equipment does not generally leave permanent indentations. Freshly unpacked tiles may initially smell of rubber. Outdoors, this smell fades over time.
How is the flooring laid?
The tiles are loose laid, simply placed in position without drilling, gluing or screwing. Suitable substrates include concrete, paving, timber floors and existing indoor floors. The substrate must remain load-bearing, stable and reasonably level. On grass or soil, gravel grids filled with stone chippings form the sub-base. The rounded jigsaw interlock connects the tiles firmly, preventing edges from lifting. The handy tile format is also suitable for outdoor areas. At the edges, the tiles can be cut to size with a jigsaw or circular saw. The tiles can be lifted and laid elsewhere when required, for example for a competition or after moving premises.
How does the flooring cope with rain, dirt and frost?
Rainwater passes through the tiles. On an impermeable substrate such as concrete, it runs along shallow drainage channels on the underside of the tiles and follows the gradient. On gravel grids filled with stone chippings, water drains into the ground, provided the soil itself is sufficiently permeable. This means the area can also be used in wet weather. The tiles are also frost-resistant. A broom and garden hose are enough for regular cleaning. Warm water with a pH-neutral cleaner removes stubborn dirt. On heavily used training areas, the tiles can also be wiped with alcohol-based disinfectants when required.
Can the tiles be cut to size?
Yes. For an extra charge, WARCO supplies tiles cut precisely to fit the planned area and ready to lay. On site, they only need to be placed in the intended order. Additional Type XX functional tiles can be used to further optimise the overall build-up height and improve impact cushioning.
