Playroom Floor Tiles Type XT are precision-cut tiles, 1.8 cm thick, with a wearing layer of through-coloured EPDM rubber granules. The tiles meet at tight joints, so the floor looks like a poured surface. The flooring feels pleasantly resilient underfoot and is slip-resistant and colourfast. It can be laid indoors and outdoors.
What is the flooring like to play on?
Whether building with blocks, playing with a toy kitchen or racing toy cars, children prefer to play on the floor. They can sit, kneel and crawl comfortably on the flooring. It feels warm under bare feet. Its grippy surface is slip-resistant. The resilient flooring dampens the sound of footsteps, jumping and dropped toys. This makes it suitable for playrooms, children’s bedrooms, living room play areas and nurseries, as well as terraces where children play.
What are the tiles made from?
The tiles have two layers with different functions. The upper wearing layer comes into contact with hands and feet. It is made from newly produced, through-coloured EPDM rubber granules. As a result, the tiles retain their colour even as the surface wears over time. The base layer is made from ELT granules, which are recycled rubber granules from end-of-life tyres. The base layer is manufactured at low density. This makes the flooring pleasantly resilient underfoot. The playroom flooring weighs around 14 kg per square metre. When first unpacked, the tiles sometimes smell of rubber. With good ventilation, the smell soon disappears.
How are the tiles laid?
The tiles are simply laid in place, without drilling, gluing or screwing. No tradesperson is needed. The substrate, such as screed, tiles, parquet or a timber floor, must remain load-bearing, stable and reasonably level. The tiles can also be laid over underfloor heating. Their rounded jigsaw interlock joins them together so that the edges do not lift. At the perimeter, the tiles are cut with a jigsaw or circular saw. If the children’s bedroom is later used for a different purpose, the flooring can be lifted and laid elsewhere.
How do you look after the flooring indoors and outdoors?
Crumbs, sand and craft scraps can be removed with a vacuum cleaner or broom. For damp mopping, use warm water and a neutral cleaner. In a nursery, the tiles can also be wiped with alcohol-based disinfectants as part of hygienic cleaning. In the garden or on a terrace, rain runs through the tiles. On an impermeable substrate, it runs beneath them and drains away down the slope. This prevents puddles from forming and allows the play surface to dry quickly. Frost does not harm the tiles.
Can I increase the floor height or order tiles cut to size?
Type XX functional tiles can be placed beneath the playroom flooring. They increase the build-up height and further reduce impact sound. To avoid cutting the tiles on site, draw the area using the laying planner on the WARCO website and send the DXF file to WARCO. For an additional charge, WARCO supplies the tiles cut to size and ready to lay.
