What covering makes a double standing seam metal roof walkable?

Elastic WARCO rubber patio tiles made of PU-bound rubber granules can make a low-pitched double standing seam metal roof walkable and suitable for use as a terrace. The tiles are laid loose directly on the metal sheeting, without screws or adhesive. They form a walkable covering and help protect the standing seam roof when it is walked on.

The standing seams rise around 2.5 to 3 cm above the metal surface. The customer routes a groove into the underside of each tile along the line of the seam. The standing seam fits into the groove and holds the covering in position without being fixed to the metal. Tile thickness should exceed the seam height by at least 1 cm and is usually 4 cm in practice. This allows the tiles to rest fully on the metal between the seams while leaving enough depth above the groove to avoid unduly weakening each tile.

Installation requires an intact roof covering and a roof structure capable of carrying the weight of the tiles as well as the loads arising from terrace use. The metal roof remains the watertight layer. The permeable patio tiles allow rainwater to pass through, after which it runs off over the metal along the roof pitch. Minor damaged areas in the metal are sealed before the tiles are laid, for example with ALLESDICHT, WARCO’s liquid waterproofing product.
