What rubber flooring can be laid over sheet metal, plywood or trailer beds?

WARCO rubber tiles made from rubber granules bonded with a polyurethane binder can be laid over level sheet metal and engineered wood boards. These substrates are common on steel or aluminium balconies added to existing buildings, with decks made from aluminium, galvanised steel or stainless steel. They are also used for trailer beds on trailers and commercial vehicles made from plywood with an anti-slip coating, and for podiums, stages and platforms built from composite boards or plywood.

On balconies, podiums and stages, the tiles are laid directly over the sheet metal or supporting board, with no screws or adhesive and no additional sub-base. The sheet metal or board must be level, clean and sound. Light profiling on tread plate presents no obstacle. Depending on the range, the individual tiles are joined by a jigsaw interlock or plastic connectors. As nothing is fixed to the substrate, coatings and waterproofing beneath the rubber covering are left intact, and individual tiles can be lifted whenever required.

On open trailer beds, whether on trailers or commercial vehicles, the rubber tiles are bonded with PU adhesive to prevent wind while travelling and vehicle movement from shifting them.

The rubber tiles are water-permeable. Rainwater passes through them and runs over the sheet metal or supporting board, following the existing fall towards a drain or drip edge. Because moisture may remain temporarily beneath the rubber covering, engineered wood boards used outdoors must be suitable for this purpose and protected along their cut edges.

The elasticity of the rubber covering also helps reduce the booming and drumming noise that thin sheet metal makes underfoot. Its textured surface is slip-resistant.
