Can rubber granule patio slabs be laid on adjustable pedestals?
Patio slabs made from PU-bound rubber granules cannot be laid directly on adjustable pedestals or individual slab supports. They are elastic rather than self-supporting and require continuous, load-bearing support.
Rigid patio slabs made from ceramic or concrete are designed to span the gaps between adjustable pedestals. Elastic rubber granule patio slabs can bend between point supports under their own weight, and this deformation increases when the surface is walked on. A stable, level walking surface cannot be formed between point supports.
On an existing pedestal terrace, rubber granule patio slabs can be laid where the adjustable pedestals already support stable ceramic or concrete patio slabs. The existing ceramic or concrete slab surface then provides the continuous support required for the elastic patio slabs.
