Step outside barefoot with a cup of coffee in the morning. In the afternoon, the children play there. In the evening, you sit outside with friends until late. These patio tiles are made from rubber granules bonded with polyurethane. They turn a patio, roof terrace or outdoor seating area into a place for the whole day. The finished surface looks almost seamless because only a tight, barely visible joint remains between the calibrated tiles.
How do the tiles feel underfoot?
The surface feels warm and pleasantly resilient underfoot. It is comfortable to walk on barefoot, and children happily sit on it to play. It stays slip-resistant even after rain. The elastic surface also cushions falls. This adds comfort and safety for children, older people and pets. It absorbs almost all the noise from footsteps, moving garden furniture and wheeled toys.
What are the tiles made of?
Each tile has two layers. The wearing layer is made from newly manufactured, through-coloured EPDM rubber granules. The base layer consists of recycled tyre rubber granules (ELT). New tiles may smell of rubber at first, much like a new car. The smell fades after a short time.
How are the tiles laid?
The new surface can often be laid directly over the old one. The surface underneath must remain load-bearing and stable, and be largely level. Suitable examples include concrete, tiles, natural stone, bituminous membranes and roof waterproofing. In the garden, gravel grids filled with stone chippings form the base. The tiles are simply loose laid without glue or screws. Their rounded, optimised jigsaw interlock holds them together permanently. Edging is therefore not normally needed. Cut the edge tiles with a jigsaw or circular saw.
What about rain, frost and cleaning?
Rainwater passes through the tiles. On a sealed base, it runs along channels on the underside and follows the slope. No puddles remain, and the patio dries quickly. Frost does not harm the tiles. A broom, mop or garden hose is all you need for cleaning.
Can I add height or order cut tiles?
The tiles can be laid without an additional sub-base. For extra build-up height or even better impact sound reduction, place matching Type XX tiles underneath. WARCO can supply the complete tile set for the area, cut to size and marked, for an additional charge. Draw the area in the laying planner on the WARCO website. Export the DXF file and send it to WARCO.
