What sustainable alternatives to plastic event flooring?
Sustainable alternatives to plastic event flooring are environmentally friendly chiefly when they are used repeatedly. In place of disposable exhibition carpet, reusable modular systems that can be lifted and relaid have become established options for exhibition stands. They include reusable carpet tiles, plastic click and interlocking systems, click tiles made from rubber granules, and hire systems supplied through a stand builder; hire systems qualify because the same flooring is used by several exhibitors.
The materials used also affect environmental performance. Carpet tiles are available with recycled plastic fibres, while resilient flooring is made from recycled granules, and ELT rubber granules come from tyre recycling. Even so, the number of uses remains decisive: an exhibition floor used at ten exhibitions avoids more waste than a single-use product made with recycled fibres.
WARCO manufactures reusable exhibition flooring in the form of click tiles made from PU-bound rubber granules. Some variants use only ELT rubber granules; in others, the base layer consists mainly of ELT rubber granules and the surface has a colourfast EPDM wear layer. The click tiles are laid without adhesive and can be used in halls and outdoor areas. After an exhibition, they can be lifted without damage and relaid at the next location. The rubber tiles can be cleaned with a damp cloth, and neither rain nor frost damages them.
