Frequently asked questions

Can XT tiles be installed floating without fixings?

XT tiles can be laid as a floating surface over the full area of an existing, load-bearing sub-base, without additional fixings. Each tile has a jigsaw interlock around its edges. The teeth slot into matching recesses in neighbouring tiles, holding the tiles together without adhesive or mortar.

The tiled surface and the sub-base can respond independently to changes in temperature and moisture. This avoids the stresses that can develop between the layers when they are rigidly bonded together. Individual damaged tiles can also be lifted out and replaced.

Where the surface ends at an exposed edge, such as at a step, it is finished with a metal angle trim. Tiles along that edge can be bonded with PU adhesive.
