Which flooring is suitable for an outdoor fitness area?
An outdoor fitness area needs flooring that is slip resistant, secure underfoot, shock absorbing, weather resistant and easy to maintain. Rubber granulate fitness tiles meet these requirements.
They reduce vibration, ease the strain on joints and provide secure footing even in wet conditions. They are water permeable, frost resistant and hard wearing, allowing the area to remain in use throughout the year. Some types have also been tested for impact attenuation in accordance with BS EN 1177.
A tile thickness of around 4 cm is suitable for exercise circuits, calisthenics areas, functional training and boot camp zones. It combines cushioning, stability and secure footing, even during dynamic exercise.
In areas exposed to heavy use from kettlebells, barbells or jumping exercises, thicker and heavier tiles are recommended. They offer high compressive strength while remaining water permeable, helping to protect users, equipment and the sub-base.
Before installation, prepare a level and load bearing sub-base. Rubber granulate fitness tiles require very little maintenance and can be cleaned with water and a broom or a pressure washer. Thanks to the interlocking system, individual tiles can be replaced if required without relaying the entire surface.
