Do ants build nests under rubber granule tiles?

Ants do not build nests beneath water-permeable rubber granule tiles.

During rainfall, rainwater passes through the tiles across the entire surface and saturates the area beneath. Ants prefer warm locations that are protected from moisture when building nests. Beneath stone slabs, exposed aggregate slabs and concrete slabs, they find warm areas protected from moisture. Areas surfaced with water-permeable rubber granule tiles are therefore unattractive to ants.
