Colour designs of Light and Dark Granite

As a result of the correct installation of the elastic flooring, minimal joints are created between particular tiles. Here are the square slabs, assembled in a half offset, with a T-joint. The symmetrically arranged tiles in dark granite design add an interesting touch to the classic grey balcony flooring.

Installation in offset

With the installation of rectangular tiles there are two possible installation designs:

  • the checkerboard pattern, with a cross-joint
  • the offset pattern, with a T-joint
  • Installation design for the tiles assembled with a chequered pattern with a cross-joint.
Close Installation design with a cross-joint.

    Installation with a cross joint

In case of the installation done with a cross-joint pattern, 4 corners (of 4 tiles) stick to each other in one crossing point. The assembly outcome is an even flooring.

    Installation with a T-joint

In case of a T-joint installation pattern, only 2 corners and one side of a tile (of 3 tiles) meet at an intersection point. When laying the tiles in a half offset, this pattern (the moving) of each tile is made by a row, exactly by a half-length of a plate, and the outcome is a symmetrical design. In a random offset (like with floorboards), the offset may differ from row to row, as long as the economic installation (almost without material waste) is possible.

The decision as to which installation pattern to choose, should be based on technical, economic and aesthetic aspects. Concerning the connection systems offered by WARCO, the following rule should be applied:

  • Stall mats (SD type) and all other tiles with straight, non-profiled edges, (without connectors) may be laid with a T-joint in any offset to the other row.
  • Safety tiles of the FS type, i.e., tiles with non-profiled edges and equipped with plastic connectors, should be laid with a T-joint in the half offset to the other row.
  • Safety tiles and terrace flooring with a tongue and groove system (NF type) are prepared for the installation with a cross-joint (chequered) design. They can also be assembled in a T-joint pattern in an offset to the other row. In this case, we should cut out an excess piece of the tile in the appropriate places which will allow us for the stable arrangement of the flooring.
  • The tiles equipped with interlocking zip teeth, belong to the category TZ in which balcony, patio and terrace tiles are produced, should be laid in the pattern of a 50 cm-grid. This means that the tiles are generally assembled in the format 50 cm x 50 cm with cross joints. On the other hand, the tiles in the dimensions of 100 x 100 cm can be fitted with cross joints or with T-joint in a half offset.

Please refer to the installation instructions with reference to the corresponding connection systems or the existing subfloor.

  • Several pictures show how easy it is to do the DIY installation of the elastic tiles by WARCO on a roof terrace covered with the bituminous sheeting. The installation was carried out row by row, tile by tiles, in the half-offset. In no time, the terrace is covered with a new flooring. Classic balcony

Tiles for an easy DIY installation

You need no special technical skills to do the DIY installation of the safety tiles or rubber flooring by WARCO on a roof terrace covered with a roofing membrane. The tiles with the same built-in connection system help to join the tiles permanently, without the need of glueing or fixing them to each other and to the ground. It is a matter of personal taste whether we should do the installation in an offset, where the individual rows are moved by half of a tile length, in the offset against each other, or rather the assembly is carried out in a checkerboard pattern.

Safety mats with plastic connectors should be always installed in a half-offset. Only then the plastic connectors that join the tiles with 2 adjacent pieces of the previous and the next row of the tiles, are fully effective. Here, a trampoline which has been built in a vegetable garden has been supported with black safety mats. The protective area that is laid further is bordered with concrete curbs.

    Two-coloured installation pattern

The installation in a half-offset is a popular installation pattern. In many tiles, for example, safety tiles with plastic connectors, it is the only possible solution. However, tiles with a tongue and groove assembly system can be laid in any design. Grey mosaic tiles have got a neutral colour and suit every surroundings

Resilient rubber granulate tiles by WARCO make a great impression. Therefore, more and more designers and builders go for the elastic flooring when planning a balcony, terrace, roof terrace or a winter garden. In case of the tiles with a tongue and groove connection system, the lay-out pattern can be selected individually. Some customers choose to assemble the tiles in the offset to the other row. In addition, geometrical design can be made from contrasting tiles and thus, it may loosen the homogeneous surface of the terrace.

    Tiles installed in an offset

WARCO safety mats and terrace flooring with tongue and groove system are the only tiles that can be installed in a checkerboard pattern and in a half-offset without making compromises on the function of the connection system (which is form-fit). The installation of the flooring with an offset is beneficial especially in the areas that do not fit perfectly with the specified dimensions for the installation measure, and little or no material waste occurs. The remaining piece of a row can be used as the first tile of the next row, so you may work more economically.
